Midwest Regionals Email Update #1

7/18/2019

Hello Everyone,

I hope your training has been going well and you have been able to stay healthy and make recovery a priority?  We are 2 short weeks away from The USA Powerlifting Midwest Regional and USA Weightlifting Midwest Summer Slam!!

First and foremost, if you have not booked your hotel rooms yet, please do so as soon as possible.  Our room block closes on Friday, July 19th at midnight.

Championship Hotel: The Renaissance Airport Hotel – Room rate $94

I have been getting lots of emails about the schedule and the roster.  You can find all of the current information and any updates HERE.  Many apologies for not getting this information our sooner, there have been a number of items working against me in getting this out.  We are locked in at 132 athletes from all ages and experience levels; some Rookies, a few Veterans, a long list of Raw Competitors ages ranging from 8 to over 80 years old.  Be prepared for an incredible weekend of insanely amazing feats of human performance!

As many of you may know, running a successful meet relies heavily on those involved, particularly the volunteers.  These “Knights in Shining Armor” are the ones that we ALL heavily rely on to help ensure that we perform to the greatest of our ability on meet day.  We have a few already confirmed but can always use more.  Please spread the word.  And for those of you that are new to the sport, you will quickly learn how important it is to get involved.  PLEASE sign up here to VOLUNTEER!!

If you are interested in becoming a Certified USA Powerlfitng State Referee, please contact me ASAP.  Testing and practicals will be taking place.  There are limited spots available.

Here is the LIVE roster, barring any drops or weight class changes.  PLEASE NOTE: the schedule is very close to being finalized.  IT IS 99% there.  Flights and any final session changes will be announced next week.  Please look this over and let me know if there are any corrections that need to be made.  If you have not gotten your USA Powerlifting Membership updated, please get this taken care of as soon as possible.  This will be one less thing to be concerned about going into the competition.  You can purchase your membership here.

Rick Miller Photography will be on site to capture the day’s events.  Rick offers you the ability to hire a Professional Photographer to cover your performance for a fraction of the cost.  Pre-registered athletes will have priority in coverage and receive discounted pricing.  This is an awesome opportunity that you should not think twice about.  More information can be found here

Coach Registration and Info:  Access to the warmup area and the coaching area at all USA Powerlifting sanctioned Regional and National events is restricted to USA Powerlifting members in good standing.  This applies to Athletes, Officials, Referees and Coaches.  All coaches must purchase admission to attend the event ($10/day).  Each lifter will receive 1 coach upgrade which will allow them into the warm up and staging areas.  Additional Coaches passes are $20

Personal Equipment and Rules of Performance: Please review the Lifter’s Handbook and brush up on your rules of performance.  Likewise, please make sure you have all of the REQUIRED personal equipment to compete.  If you fail to meet these requirements, you will not be allowed to compete.  Equipped lifters fall under much tighter scrutiny and your supportive gear (SQ/DL suits and BN shirts) MUST be on the IPF approved list.  Knee wraps must fall within technical specs of the IPF approved equipment.

  • Non-supportive singlet (REQUIRED)
  • T-shirt (REQUIRED)
  • Briefs (REQUIRED, NO BOXER BRIEFS, NO BOY SHORTS.)
  • Socks (SHIN LENGTH SOCKS MUST BE WORN DURING THE DEADLIFT PORTION OF THE COMPETITION)

New Lifter Tips:  This is a very helpful list to review to help you be prepared for meet day

  • Weigh Ins:
    • Youth competitors (13 and under) MUST weigh in wearing their singlet & t-shirt and be accompanied by a parent, guardian or coach.  There are no exceptions to this rule.
    • Weigh ins will be conducted by lot number.  “Where there are multiple flights lifting in a session, flights will be weighed in the order in which they lift. So the lot numbers assigned to first flight will be lower than the numbers for the second flight and so on. All lifters in the 1st flight who are present when called will have one opportunity to weigh before lifters in the 2nd flight – this rule will apply for succeeding flights. Lifters who were absent when called to the scale will weigh in after all the lifters who were present.
